Hedingham Heritage Society was formed in 1990 with the simple aim of ‘providing an interest and awareness of the local environment- its past, present and future. The society achieves this aim in two ways::
- Offering a wide ranging programme of talks, walks and events centred around the distinct history and natural history of the people and environment of the Hedinghams and East Anglia.
- Promoting and supporting members of the society and the Hedingham community to enhance and protect their local environment.
Previous projects have included:
- Exhibitions and events to celebrate - the Millennium (2000); the life and times of Edward DeVere, 17th Earl of Oxford (2004); Castle Hedingham and the Magna Carta (2015); Castle and Sible Hedingham through old photos (2012)
- Village guides for Castle and Sible Hedingham,
- The Magna Carta walk; footpath maps for both Castle and Sible Hedingham,
- Tree and hedge planting throughout the parishes, and extensively at Molly’s Wood
- Looking after village ponds and our river Colne
- Aerial and ground recording of all hedgerows and woodland in the parish
- We also manage our special verges along Delvyn’s Lane and look after a small area of parish green on Rosemary Lane
